Description

Moist Banana Bread with Crunchy Streusel Topping is a soft banana loaf packed with ripe banana flavor and finished with a buttery cinnamon crumb topping.


Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Pinch ground nutmeg

1/2 cup unsalted butter softened

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

4 ripe bananas mashed

1/4 cup buttermilk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup chopped walnuts optional

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

2 tablespoons butter

1/4 cup chopped walnuts


Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C) and grease a 9×5 loaf pan or line with parchment paper

2. Make the streusel topping by mixing flour brown sugar cinnamon and butter until crumbly then stir in walnuts

3. In a bowl whisk flour baking powder baking soda salt cinnamon and nutmeg

4. In another bowl cream butter brown sugar and granulated sugar until light and fluffy

5. Add eggs one at a time mixing well after each addition

6. Stir in mashed bananas buttermilk and vanilla extract

7. Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined

8. Fold in walnuts if using

9. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and spread evenly

10. Sprinkle streusel topping evenly over the batter

11. Bake for 60 to 70 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean

12. Allow the bread to cool before slicing and serving

Notes

Use very ripe bananas for the best flavor and sweetness

Do not overmix the batter to keep the bread soft and tender

Store banana bread in an airtight container for up to three days
