Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Gel food coloring (pastel colors)
½ cup powdered sugar for coating
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
3. Beat butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then add vanilla extract.
5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
6. Divide the dough into portions and color each portion with pastel gel food coloring.
7. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for about 20–30 minutes.
8. Roll dough into small balls and coat generously in powdered sugar.
9. Place dough balls on baking sheets with space between them.
10. Bake for 10–12 minutes until the cookies puff and form a crackled surface.
11. Allow cookies to cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
Chilling the dough helps create the best crinkle texture.
Use gel food coloring for bright pastel colors without thinning the dough.
Roll the dough generously in powdered sugar to achieve the classic crackle effect.
Do not overbake to keep the cookies soft in the center.
